Cong, Left slam post-poll violence ‘unleashed by TMC’ | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Congress and Left parties slammed the post-poll violence unleashed by TMC workers on political opponents in West Bengal and said the electorate did not vote for such lawlessness.
Congress and Left said their workers too had been targeted by Trinamool Congress in the aftermath of Mamata Banerjee’s third successive win in assembly polls.
Posting photographs as evidence of the violence, CPM chief Sitaram Yechury said the aggression would be “resisted and rebuffed”. “Are these reports of gruesome violence in Bengal TMC’s ‘victory celebrations’? Condemnable. Will be resisted and rebuffed. Instead of focusing on combating the pandemic, TMC unleashes such mayhem. CPI(M), as always, will be with the people to protect, assist, providing relief,” he tweeted.
“The post-poll violence that has been unleashed by TMC on Congress workers is unacceptable. Even women and children are not spared,” said Congress’ Jitin Prasada.
Left leaders Subhashini Ali and Aishe Ghosh too condemned the violence. Condoling the “brutal murder” of AIDWA leader Kakoli Kshetrapal, Ali said TMC’s decisive win had led to an incre-ase in aggression against political opponents. Ghosh spoke about young Left workers who were helping people in these desperate times, likely pointing to the government’s mishandling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
