Justice Prathiba M Singh also refused to interfere with the Delhi government’s decision to impose challans for not wearing a mask while driving a private vehicle alone and dismissed the pleas challenging the same.
The court said the mask was like a ‘suraksha kavach’ (protective shield) during the prevailing pandemic.
Delhi HC ruling comes a day after India reported a record daily high of 1.15 lakh new infections in a span of 24 hours, pushing the nationwide Covid-19 tally to 1,28,01,785 on Wednesday.
The single-day rise in coronavirus cases has breached the 1-lakh mark for the second time in three days.
On Tuesday, the Delhi government imposed a night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am till April 30 to curb the rise of Covid-19 cases in the capital.
The number of people in the country who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,17,92,135, while the case fatality rate has further dropped to 1.30 per cent, the data stated.
India’s Covid-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.
